I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and had always followed the University of Michigan football team, the Wolverines. When I left Michigan to move to Oregon my best friend would repeat “a Duck” over and over again, because I was no longer going to be a Wolverine, but a Duck. Well, that was in 1994 and the University of Oregon Ducks went to the Rose Bowl—not the Wolverines—and played Penn State. Since I’ve lived here in Eugene, we are now 2 and 0 against Michigan. All my best friend in Ann Arbor can say now is that he is glad I didn’t...

I am Ed’s youngest son, and as you can imagine growing up with Ed as my father, cars have always been a part of my life. I have spent parts of every summer at Swedish Engineering and over the years have developed a love and respect for Volvos. A year ago I got my first car—a 1982 Volvo 244 DL. It recently proved to me that my respect in its safety was well placed. On one of our icy Oregon evenings, I took a turn for the worst and hit a ditch. My car flipped and landed on its roof. I was born and raised in Lincoln County, Oregon, on a 100-acre ranch 28 miles east of Newport that was built by my family four generations ago. Growing up as an only child the first 9 years of my life, I got to experience the world on my own terms. Later, I learned to share the world with three half-siblings.
While growing up as a young child I always took great interest in what my father did. He was an accomplished mechanic...

I have been a car enthusiast for as long as I can remember. While attending the auto mechanics program at Lane Community College I rebuilt a 1982 Chevy Camaro. The car ran and was a lot of fun for many years. Like it is for many mechanics, a project is never complete. This summer I began restoring it yet again, attempting to change every nut, bolt, etc.
I began working at Swedish Engineering in August of 2003...

I married my high school sweetheart, and we moved to Eugene in 1976. We have a son that graduated from the University of Oregon and Oregon Health Sciences University and is now a dentist in Eugene. We also have a daughter that graduated from the U of O with a bachelor’s degree in Japanese...

I’m a native Oregonian born in Eugene on July 25, 1955. I showed an interest in cars at an early age—my first birthday present was a toy truck. Growing up, one of my favorite pastimes was to help my father work on the family cars. By the time I was 12 years old I was disassembling and rebuilding motors. My father was a “car nut,” and we made many trips to watch a variety of motor sports, from go-kart racing to sports car prototypes to “Indy car” racing, but my favorite type of racing to see was, and still is, drag racing...
